Preserving High-Merit Genetics with Tyndale Vets
At Tyndale Vets, we understand the importance of preserving exceptional genetics within your herd. Our genetic recovery service offers a valuable solution when animals of high genetic merit reach the end of their productive life or face unexpected circumstances.
Why Consider Genetic Recovery?
End of Productive Life: Retain the valuable genetics of animals that have reached the end of their productive lifespan on your farm.
Welfare Euthanasia: Preserve genetics from animals requiring euthanasia due to accidents or welfare concerns.
Cost Effective Genetic Preservation
Collection Fee: £250 per collection.
Grade One Embryo Freezing: £110 per embryo.
Superovulation (if applicable): Additional costs may apply.
Key Considerations for Optimal Success
Euthanasia Location: Euthanasia can be performed on your farm, at Tyndale Vets, or at a pre-arranged abattoir.
Time Sensitivity: Optimal results are achieved when ovaries are recovered and transported to Tyndale Vets within two hours of euthanasia. The shorter the timeframe, the better.
Farm Restrictions: We cannot perform genetic recovery on farms under movement restrictions.
Your Next Steps
Contact Tyndale Vets immediately to discuss your situation and determine the best course of action.
What to Expect During the Process
Ovary Recovery: Following euthanasia, either your own veterinarian or a member of the Tyndale veterinarian team will attend to perform the euthanasia and locate and recover the ovaries.
Temperature Preservation: The ovaries are placed in a wide-necked thermos flask, packed with abomasal fat to maintain optimal temperature.
DNA Sampling: A DNA tail hair sample is collected and transported with the ovaries, labelled with collection details.
Abattoir Recovery: If euthanasia occurs at an abattoir, our team will be present to intercept the ovaries.
Oocyte Aspiration and Flushing: At Tyndale Vets, we aspirate follicles and further slice and flush the ovaries to maximize oocyte recovery.
IVF Process: The process continues similarly to our standard IVF procedures.
Successful Outcomes: We have achieved remarkable success, with one collection yielding 21 grade one embryos from a valuable Aberdeen Angus cow.
