TB and Infectious diseases.

Infectious Disease
Maintaining a healthy herd is the foundation of a profitable dairy farm, no matter your size or system.
TB
We look at TB as if it was any other infectious disease that we monitor and manage on farm. Our team of TBAS advisors look at the holistic picture to work together on how we can avoid the TB lottery by taking control back from this highly disruptive disease.
Our dedicated team of ATTs are an integral part this approach as their on-farm knowledge shapes how our vets apply their knowledge to produce bespoke tb advice for your farm.
As well as managing TB in cattle herds, our team also has industry leading knowledge and experience in deer and goat herd investigations.
All clients are eligible for free TBAS visits with our team to provide practical measures that can be applied to improve on farm biosecurity and biocontainment.

BVD
BVD Cymru and Animal Health and Welfare Pathway funding support.
The new BVD Cymru scheme is the follow up from the Gwaredu BVD scheme that ran from 2017-2022 in which 85% of cattle farms in Wales were screened.
This new phase has no funding provided from the Welsh government, so all testing must be done privately. More importantly however, for the first time there will be movement restrictions placed on farms with positive animals. These restrictions don’t come into place until July 2025 so we have until then to sort out any problems before movement restrictions are in place.

Johne's
Johne's disease is a chronic wasting disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium avium paratuberculosis (MAP). MAP infects the cells of the gut leading to thickening of the gut and the animal is unable to absorb nutrients from its food causing dramatic weight loss. Infected animals are also much more likely to have concurrent disease e.g. high cell count and poor fertility so it has a significant impact on the herds production and general health. It is seen in cattle, sheep, goats and deer and is untreatable so prevention is therefore key to controlling this disease.
Action Johne's has been developed to give livestock vets extra training on Johne's, its prevention and control and our trained advisors can help you.
