Foot Health

Improving herd mobility

Whether you want an independent registered mobility scorer (RoMS) to regularly score the herd or would like to improve your herds’ foot health we have experienced vets and vet techs to help achieve your mobility goals. We also have close working relationships with multiple NAFCT level 1 foot trimmers.

Emily is our mobility mentor who can deliver the Healthy Feet Programme (HFP) which is a well developed stepwise approach to investigating and improving lameness specifically on your farm, by identifying which practical actions will make the most difference on your farm, in your cows with the problems you are experiencing.

Foot trimming courses

We run two LANTRA approved foot trimming courses alongside a CHCSB approved foot trimmer instructor: First Aid for Feet and Intermediate Hoof Trimming.

These courses cover the current best practice for trimming and treating lame cows and develop practical skills through an engaging, interactive 1 day or 3 day course.

If there are no convenient dates for you available at present please contact us to be added to our waiting list as we can arrange to run these more often if there is further interest.

Treating lameness

Our vets are experienced at diagnosing and treating lameness, including chronic non-healing lesions such as toe necrosis. These tricky chronic cases require local anaesthetic blocks to remove diseased tissue and gives them significantly higher likelihood of recovery than if trimmed conventionally. Frequent communication with local trimmers allows these cases to be flagged and brought to us early, giving them the best chance of recovery. This additional local block could either be carried out while your trimmer is on farm to avoid unnecessary repeated handling or on a separate vet visit.
