Fertility

Routine work

Well managed fertility is the cornerstone to a profitable dairy business. Routine visits are used to manage post calving checks, non-seen bullers and PDs to allow prompt intervention of problem cows. Protocols drawn up between yourself and your routine vet create consistent management processes which can then be monitored to identify trends early.

We strongly feel heifer fertility is equally as important and these visits should include regular heifer scanning to ensure we are hitting Age of First Calving targets and keeping a close eye on the growth and development of your future herd.

Routine visits are great opportunities to review and discuss all manners of herd health and performance to ensure we are progressing towards your farm’s specific goals and aspirations.

Working closely with 2 nominated vets allows for a broad scope of experience and perspective which helps us quickly get to the root of problems with a team around you that you know and trust.

Genomic advice and breeding consultancy

Whether you are using AHDB genetic report or full genomic datasets we can work alongside you to help achieve your genetic goals. Using the data at our disposal and your long term aims we can create bespoke heifer breeding plans.

Genetics are one of the key pillars to reduce our carbon footprint. Improvements we can make here feed on through the whole rearing and production system. Selection on health, fertility and lifespan has been found to reduce the carbon footprint of milk largely due to a dilution in maintenance requirements as fewer resources and animals are required to produce a given amount of milk.

Bull breeding exam

Our in-house embryology lab as part of Advanced Breeding business is available as a support tool to all our farms. This can be used for in depth semen analysis prior to the start of a block calving breeding season or as an investigative tool after poor conception rates. The team are also utilised in farm staff training for AI and refresher courses.

Repeat Breeder Embryos

We produce in house repeat breeder embryos using easy calving beef semen which can provide up to 30% improvement in conception rates in cows you are struggling to get in calf. This simple process involves defrosting and implanting a 7 day old embryo into the uterine horn 7 days after she was seen bulling on farm. This is frequently targeted at cows ~200 days in milk who have had multiple unsuccessful services that would otherwise not be marked for culling.

So confident are we of the success of this procedure we provide this service on a no pregnancy no fee basis.
