Udder Health.

Udder Health
Parlour audits
Used independently or alongside a Mastitis Control Plan, the parlour audit looks at udder health down at the cow level. Areas investigated include pre-milking teat prep, liner slippage and cluster alignment, post dip application, staff hygiene and compliance. Teat end and hygiene scores are carried out during milking and can be used to monitor and track improvements as bad habits are removed and new protocols are applied.
When changes to parlour routine are to be implemented, buy in from the whole milking team is vital. As such we try and involve the team as early as possible in the investigation so their thoughts can be heard and to understand what changes are achievable. Team training using our findings help to make everyone feel invested in the problem and know they are key to the success.
Outside of the pit we work closely with QMMS to run bacteriology on bedding, water, bulk and individual milk samples.
The final key in the puzzle is the vast amount of data generated from monthly milk recording alongside your parlour software. Using this with the findings from the parlour and environment investigation help piece together what factors are most relevant to the issue on hand and to deliver a tailored solution for your farm.
